I cannot remember who to credit with letting me know the Soap Dispensary exists- was it Robyn? I think it was Robyn. Thank you Robyn. Or maybe Hannon.
The Soap Dispensary is a very cool place. It is a refill store that sells soaps, cleaners, and personal care products on tap. It is a simple and common sense idea and it makes me feel excited and happy inside. The owners are friendly and the storefront is charming. You can purchase a pretty set of bottles from them or bring your empties from whatever you just finished and fill up. No judgment. So reduce your plastic footprint this week. And the next. And the next.
I never had a teddy bear. I had a teddy rabbit. My parents were either too cool or not cool enough, I suppose. The teddy bear picnic may only exist in the minds of children but the real bears we have the privledge of co-habitating with in the wild Pacific Northwest are pretty amazing, not to mention the salmon, whales, and wolves.
This is not the first time that we've talked about this (need a refresher? Check out my previous post here) but with all the changes the current government is trying to bury us under, conserving the Canadian temperate rainforest, the ocean it relies on, and all the creatures that depend on it (including us!) should not be far from our thoughts.
I am having difficultly believing it is mid-March. Adjusting to being so busy has been... weird. I am now going to tell you something.
Ready?
I am hiring a cleaning service. Eep. I know, how disgustingly Yaletown of me. But I am feeling the reality of cleaning being the last thing on my list and the fact that I will never get to the bottom of that darn list.
Oh, get over it. Pat and Alex have both done it. ("If everyone else jumped off a bridge...?") When I found out I was intrigued... and jealous. I decided to go with a service called Green Maids. They are reasonable priced (I did my research) and all their products are environmentally friendly.
Saturday is the big day. I will let you know how it goes.
I love February. But that love is for entirely selfish reasons (my birthday, valentine's day, and reading week). Once it is over, I am just itching for May. March, April, who needs 'em? They are wet and surprisingly chilly months that seperate me from the garden explosion that is May. Technically, April has some treats but the Winter Farmer's Market is such a trek it just cannot compete with May when the Kits market opens in full force.
This year, Con and I are going to try something new. We bought into a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) called Your Local Food Pedalers. That means from June 9 - Decemeber 2nd we will be receiving a box full of fresh, local, organic produce at our doorstep (figuratively since we live in a apartment) once a week, delivered by bicycle. (Bicycle!)
Let's do the math. What we are looking at is 26 weeks of a variety of produce for 2 people. If you sign up early (which I understand to be before April 1st), you get a 5% discount which puts your total is $611.63. 611.63/26 = $23.52 per week. If you are a regular organic produce shopper, you know that is a deal for a week's worth of fruit and veg.
I am super exicted.
And you should be too. When we go away for a few weeks this summer, I am planning on temporarily re-routing my goods to a lucky friend. It could be you.
If this is sounding good to you, check them out. And when you sign up, if you could please mention me in the 'how you heard about us" section, I would be much obliged.
Sad news. Your Local Food Pedalers fell upon some tough times and will not be able to provide their service this year. My heart breaks for them. Hopefully they will have more success in the near future - best of luck!
